New MCI Winners Join Shirley Yeung At 3D-Gold Prize Giving

The freshly crowned Miss Chinese International 2007 winners headed from Foshan to Guangzhou yesterday, where they received some of their prizes from jewellery sponsor 3D-Gold. Shirley Yeung appeared as the guest and was also presented with the latest design jewellery, making her shine even more.

Shirley says that she rushed to Guangzhou in the morning and complimented the girls for their beauty. As for the Hong Kong representative Aimee Chan going home with nothing, Shirley says with experience: "Winning an award is down to many elements at the right time and place, so it is nothing to be disappointed about." Shirley also feels that not winning an award does not mean you had a bad performance, as long as you have worked hard, then it doesn't matter and the fans will continue to support you. There will be a lot of opportunities in the future and Shirley believes that they will be as fulfilling. As for her new jewellery, she says it has made her feel very elegant and although she rushed over, the fee is very satisfactory and she was happy to be able to work with the company representatives in Guangzhou.

"The Brink Of Law" Cast At The Tamar Site Carnival For Promotion

Steven Ma, Bernice Liu, Ron Ng, Shirley Yeung and Kenneth Ma were among the cast memebers promoting "The Brink of Law" at the Tamar Site Carnival yesterday. They had originally planned to go on three of the rides, but after two, they had already had enough, so they changed the third activity to a sidestall to try and win prizes. In the end, it was Steven's team that won overall. Whilst Steven was going on the 'Speed Windmill' ride, the safety mechanism was pressing on his sensitive regions, but Ron and Kenneth were fine. Steven laughs: "Well, I am more well endowed than them!"

The stars split into two groups to go on the slide and rides and when Steven went on them, he could not keep his eyes open. He says: "I am not afraid of heights, but I am afraid of the pull against gravity. I usually just go on the merry-go-round, but seeing the girls going on the rides as well, then I couldn't pull out. I have had an irregular heartbeat since I was a child, so I was worried about fainting if I get over-excited."

Shirley dropped her water balloon very early on when she was on the ride and she says it has been eight or nine years since she went on a ride. Although she is not afraid of heights, she is very afraid of the forces and gravity, so she was a little dizzy afterwards. Asked if she will bring her boyfriend to go on the rides, she says she will not because the only reason she is going on them is for work. As for her role in the show being the villain, she says that some viewers have complimented her performance and not scolded her. This has given her a great satisfaction. Later in the show, she will be even more evil, getting someone to rape Kate Tsui's character and then murder people, so this may be a shock to the viewers.

Premiere For Kung Fu Mahjong 3

Roger Kwok, Shirley Yeung, Yuen Chau, Nat Chan and Winnie Leung joined executive producer Wong Jing for the premiere of "Kung Fu Mahjong 3: The Final Duel" earlier, where they held a celebratory champagne toast. Everyone took a drink, but Roger seemed a little awkward as he did not touch his. He explained that he had to rush back to continue filming for "Curious Detective" afterwards, so he daren't drink any alcohol. Asked if his wife Cindy Au has supported his film, he explained that she has to face some exams for her nutrition course, so they will go and watch it again together later. How will he be spending his Chinese New Year? He says: "The elders say that for the first year of marriage, I should stay in Hong Kong to hand out lucky packets." Asked how much he will spend on this, he says he has prepared a six figure sum, showing his generosity.

Shirley says that this is her first leading role in a movie and she smiles: "I am very nervous, becuase I have never watched myself so closely on a big screen." She says she has just invited some friends to the premiere because her boyfriend has to work and his parents did not want to appear. Talking of Wong Jing's trademark of sexy female leads, Shirley says: "This job was negotiated for me by TVB, if the company accepts it for me, then I will do it without any worries." Asked if she was worried about rumours with Wong Jing, she smiles: "I have been working hard and do not worry about these problems."

As for executive producer and director Wong Jing, he hopes that the Kung Fu Mahjong films will continue to be made all the way up to the ninth instalment. Asked why he invited Shirley to be his leading lady, he smiles: "Because I am on good terms with TVB."

Roger & Shirley's Kissing Scene

New movie "Kung Fu Mahjong 3: The Final Duel" will be airing soon this month. As this is Shirley Yeung's first movie, she is quite nervous. She says: "This is my first time in a movie. On the first day of filming I had to film a kissing scene with Roger Kwok. I had no idea and wasn't ready for it."

After filming the scene, do you have to inform your boyfriend, Gregory Lee? She laughs: "When I arrived, the crew had prepared chewing gum for me, but I wanted to be clean so I asked the crew to help me buy toothpaste and a toothbrush. Even though Roger and I are a TVB artiste, we aren't that close. So at first before warming up, I'd never thought we'll film this type of scene." Roger and Shirley have never worked together in any drama, who would've known a movie would bring them together.

Shirley Yeung Enters The "Villain World"

2006 has been a fulfilling year for Shirley Yeung. In the series "Always Ready", she received the "Best Supporting Actress Award", and for days to come she would have the chance to appear on the big screen. Looking at the 28 year-old, the title as 'First Sister' (yat jie) is just around the corner.

Every year at the Anniversary, there will be a 'fight' between who will win the "Best Actress Award". This year's double-award winner 'Television Queen' Charmaine Sheh and the one who gained weight for a series, Myolie Wu; Shirley simply expresses: "I am not an ambitious person."

"I am not an ambitious person, ever since I was young my father taught me about work. I remembered when I first entered the industry; others criticized my acting skills, so I thought about it. When they criticize me, all they want is me to do better. I picture criticism as a kind of support. In order to not disappoint those who support me, I frequently go and watch a variety of DVD's, so I can study others performing skills. When I received a role, I will try my best to portray it well."

In the new series, "The Brink Of Law", is Shirley's first time in five years as a villain. She hopes to do a new role, so it would give the audience another fresh new feeling, but at first she did not refuse to talk about it herself, couldn't believe she was the "villain" of a series. Luckily, there was Michelle Yim who promptly gave her some pointers, this made her very content.

"When I first received the role, I was worried that the audience would accept it, and that I have violated my own conscience. Afterwards, Michelle said to me, I am acting; there is no need to put too much pressure on yourself. In the series, there is a scene - it talks about my father (played by Lee Kwok Lun) going to jail because of illegal bets on the periphery. This made me extremely angry and therefore, I completely out of all might, yelled at him. In result, after filming that scene I lost my voice and the impression is still very profound."

Without much notice, Shirley has been in the industry for five years. When she first starting acting, her skills were not efficient until this year where she won two awards. Earlier, the "Best Supporting Actress" at the TVB Anniversary and now the "Most Outstanding Actor Award" at the 42nd Chicago International TV Festival, playing the role as the blind Wong Ming Yan. It could be said as feeling proud and elated.

"This time obtaining an award at the 42nd Chicago International TV Festival, I feel as if it's accidental. I heard this award has not been in the hands of a Chinese person in five years, so I'm really grateful for it! It talks about a blind female writer Wong Ming Yan's story. Before filming, I went and had a chat with her, and saw a lot of her information, for when I'm actually filming I could completely concentrate and empathize what she has been through."

Every girl has dreamed to have a tall and handsome white horse prince, but whereas Shirley this princess, chooses to date the "Two Hit Six" Gregory Lee. Recently, many reports have compared their statuses and income. Experiencing those four years of wind and rain, Shirley says love to her is extremely important, because having a stable relationship; she could concentrate more on her work.

"When I was young I have always expected and hoped to be with a tall and handsome boyfriend. But after entering the entertainment circle, my views on the white horse prince changed. Outward appearance isn't important; all I want is an honest man. He (Gregory) treasures his family a lot. The feeling of a whole family living together harmoniously is very important to me. No matter what happens to me, I will always have the support and care."

Lately, the fortune tellers have said that Shirley will have the chance of getting married, but she determinedly says that her and her boyfriends' relationship is stable, putting her work in number one place, so she temporarily does not think about the question of marriage. Even though they have not planned about marriage, but Shirley has fantasized the wedding ceremony scene.

"In the future, I hope to be married with my dogs present, so now I have already started to teach them to be more obedient. You know how lively my dogs are! Hope they could be the flower boy and flower girl at the wedding ceremony, and don't embarrass me. But now I really haven't thought about getting married, just want to do my work as best I can, others just let nature take its course. As for having a baby, if there is an opportunity!"

With an ordinary background, Shirley is nicknamed as the "New Generation Miserly Sister". However, her lifestyle is quite well as she has just bought a four million worth building. Shirley reckons the price isn't a significant point; most vital is that she and her family likes the place.

"My family is the model family in Hong Kong, my father is a Chinese English soldier, and I am the family's youngest. Ever since I was little, I've always gained in favour of them. When I was young, mum wouldn't let me play on the streets, so all I could do I play with my brother at home. Every weekend would be family day. Now when I go out to work and return home, I look at my family and there is a huge support I get from them. Each time I'm really tired from work, my mum will cheer me on, so my family to me is ten point important."

Roger Kwok & Shirley Yeung Promote "Kung Fu Mahjong 3"

A promotional event was held in the Dragon Centre yesterday for new movie "Kung Fu Mahjong 3 - The Final Duel", attended by cast members including Yuen Chau, Roger Kwok, Shirley Yeung and Winnie Leung. They all played games and demonstrated identifying Mah Jong pieces by touch alone. In this game, the top 'feeler' was Yuen Chau, whereas Shirley has no idea about Mah Jong. She says she really does not know how to play. Asked if she has not played with her mother-in-law-to-be, she says that her boyfriend and his family do not play Mah Jong and she does not know how to win or score, so when she was filming, she had plenty of NG's when she was playing in her scenes, because she kept picking her tiles from the wrong end.

Although Shirley and Roger are both TVB artistes, they have never worked together before this movie, so this was their first co-operation and they even had kissing scenes. She says: "We had a hugging kiss. (Was it very passionate?) Quite! We filmed it in the first few days of shooting, then there were a couple more scenes at the end. (Were you embarrassed?) It was okay! Roger told me not to be so nervous."

She says that beforehand, she still greeted Roger when she saw him at work, but she knows his wife Cindy Au better, so she will not be too daring. Before she filmed one of her kiss scenes, she forgot to buy some gum and immediately asked the crew for some, feeling better afterwards and believing that Roger would have some too. Had she forewarned her boyfriend? She says it is just work so there is no need and she has reserved some tickets for him to watch. Her boyfriend has watched her shows in the past and will give her some critique.
